If You Suffer from Motion Sickness, Activate This Feature on Your Mobile Phone Immediately
With it, you can now use your phone in the car without experiencing that annoying dizziness.
Has this happened to you? You want to read something on your phone during a car or train ride, but after a few minutes, you start feeling uncomfortable dizziness and end up putting your phone down. This can be especially frustrating on long journeys. For some, even simple tasks like searching or checking a map can trigger this effect. Luckily, many phones now offer a handy option to help you use your device more comfortably.
Apple's new iOS 18 update includes a feature specifically designed for this. The key is to address the sensory mismatch caused by feeling motion while looking at a stationary screen. To achieve this, the new iPhone feature places dots on the screen that follow the movements of the vehicle, thanks to the device's sensors. These moving dots help reduce sensory conflict, giving your brain the perception of movement it needs to prevent motion sickness.
This feature, announced in May, is now available with the iOS update in September.
- To activate it, go to your iPhone's Settings.
- Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Motion.
- Then, tap on "Show vehicle motion indicators" and choose an option. Apple offers an Auto mode that when enabled, automatically displays motion indicators when the system detects you're in a moving vehicle. The dots disappear when the motion stops.
- Alternatively, you can add this new option to the iOS Control Center for quicker access.
If you use an Android phone, while this option isn't yet integrated into the operating system, you can download a free app like KineStop. This app displays an artificial horizon on your phone, synchronized with the movement of the vehicle. You can download it from the Play Store.
If you're someone who frequently experiences motion sickness, this feature could be a game-changer, especially for long trips. It allows you to stay productive or entertained on your device without the usual discomfort. Whether you're reading, watching videos, or navigating with maps, this simple tweak can significantly improve your travel experience.
