Google Calendar Now Manages Tasks Without Google Tasks
Google is enhancing task management in Google Calendar. You no longer need the Google Tasks app to handle events and to do lists, everything is now accessible directly in Calendar!
If you're an Android user, chances are you rely on Google Calendar, which comes pre-installed on most devices. Over the past 14 years, the app has evolved into a powerful and user friendly scheduling tool. It allows users to create custom calendars for professional meetings, family events, and important dates like birthdays, all shareable with your contacts.
Last month, Google began testing new features to improve task management directly within Calendar, similar to the functionality of Google Tasks. With the latest update, users can now view, organize, and check off to do lists from the main Calendar interface, no need to switch to the Google Tasks app.
Enhanced Task Management in Google Calendar
Previously, tasks created through Google Tasks could appear in Google Calendar, but complex actions, like editing subtasks, required opening the Tasks app. Now, users can manage all their tasks, including undated ones, directly in Calendar.
A new task icon has also been added to the top right corner of the app. Tapping it opens the Google Tasks interface, where you can add, edit, and complete tasks seamlessly within Calendar, eliminating the need to jump between apps.
The Future of Google Tasks
This update solidifies Google Calendar as an essential tool for organizing daily life. However, it raises questions about the future of Google Tasks, as its key functionalities are now integrated into Calendar. While Tasks has recently gained traction as a simple yet effective task management tool within Google's ecosystem, this integration could signal a potential merger of the two apps.
The update, rolling out to personal Google accounts, Workspace, and Workspace Individual users, is currently exclusive to Android. With no timeline yet for iOS, the integration simplifies scheduling and task management, potentially paving the way for future AI-powered enhancements. This shift positions Google Agenda as a more comprehensive productivity hub, reducing the need for multiple apps, ultimately saving time.
