Trying to recover files via external IDE

Hey all,
my old pc went kaput, and I bought a next desktop and an external IDE enclosure to hook up my old HDD with the hope of saving my old files. my old HDD had windows xp pro on it, and my new desktop has vista premium. my old HDD was also partitioned (2) so I could use a small part for basic storage. pretty much all of the stuff I want to save though is on the main partition...where windows was previously installed

when I attach my old HDD via the external enclosure, the only thing that appears in "my computer" is the small backup partition, and nothing from the main portion that has all of my stuff. there doesn't seem to be any option to switch partitions either...can someone please help! thank you so much
