Hi there. My D: drive is reading a movie dvd and cd but it is not auto playing or reading a software disc so that I can install the software. I have gone in to Control Panel> Hardware and Sound>Autoplay> Software & Games and selected >install or run programs from your media. I have also chosen other options but none is working. My D: drive is up to date. I have no idea what else to do.

Hello Marilaw,

Your issue is common but there is nothing wrong with your drive, many CD's and DVD's are not auto play.

Here is what to do:

1. Insert the disk.

2. Open Explorer and

3. in the left pane locate your D drive

4. Click on the drive to open it, you will hear it spin

5. In the right pane the contents of the disk

6. In the disk content, locate the setup file or the .exe and double click on it.

Setup will start.

Good luck and let me know

Hi Ambucias

This did not work. The right pane does not show. D: only gives me an option to burn disc, but no matter what I do...the disc will not open or allow it to be read.

I have also found that my discs with photos on them cannot be read either. When I insert them, it only gives me an option to burn disc as a data (USB) or a CD.

What shall I try next?

Did you see the disk in the left pane ? Double click on it.

Yes I have done that too. It eventually kicked the disc out automatically when I double clicked and a pop up block said that I must insert a disc in drive D:

Using a clean lint free cloth clean the lens and disks.
