Are my phone calls from wifi or my cell service?

So, if I am at my house on my cell phone (on wifi) connected to my Comcast Modem/Router are my calls going through my ISP (Comcast) for voice or am I just picking up the closest towers. I should be going through the ISP connection. If I am not why have a wifi modem router at all.

Wifi is for the web internet service. You calls go through the tower.
