So I have a Z840 tower workstation and yesterday for some unknown reason it just froze in the middle of some rendering job i was doing. I had to cut the power off because nothing was working, not even the task manager.

I relocated all the rams and Graphic card as a standard drill but was disappointed. Now, today I just opened the case again and removed all rams and kept only one to see if it works and all of a sudden a chip started burning. OMG my heart rate touched the sky. I knew something screwed up badly. I took a closeup shot of the burned component and linked here.

Please, some real help is needed and I am absolutely devastated because i have to deliver some work that only this machine can handle.

Thanks.

So do you have a schematic of what the chip is? How about a soldering stations? When was the last time you replaced a chip on a wafer?

There is nothing a user can do about a burnt componant. Get a new motherboard, and pray the rest of the pc is fine!
