i cant connect to xbox live. Closed

Hello, my name is steven, i have a xbox 360 and a laptop but it is wired. my modem is downstairs and my 360 is up stairs. i have a broadband connection. if i buy the wirelesss adapter can i connect to xbox live? and if i cant does someone know how i can?plzzz help me cause i had my 3690 for 5 monthes and i have been trying to find out how to connect to xbox live. someone help me plzz.
