Dear Deva,
First of all make sure your linux server is set to: /etc/hosts.allow
Your intranet address is there (192.168.1 or whatever your lan IP is) Then check your /etc/inetd.conf and make sure that there is not a # in front of your telnetd line and that the telnet daemon is running.
Then download a free program called PuTTY. It is a free SSH, Telnet, rlogin, and raw TCP client for Windows systems. There is a good tutorial on setting it up on Windows XP at:
https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/access-linux-from-windows-xp-system/ stem/
Thanks

A great general linux forum is
http://www.linuxquestions.org
https://linuxformat.com
I don't know about servers but there is bound to be a forum specific to your version of linux. this site should help you to navigate to their forums
https://distrowatch.com/
I think the advice from the last person looks right but i wouldn't have a clue.
Anyway, good luck and regards from
Tom :)
