Monitor cable

Hello,

I am tryint to play a tv show from my hp laptop to my samsung lcd tv. I have the monitor cord plugged in and the screen image appears on the TV while the computer is loading; however, it goes black once windows has loaded. Can anyone walk me through steps on how to fix this. I have windows vista.

To activate the external monitor plug you need to press a function key. It's Fn + F8 on my Dell.
Look for markings something like CRT/LCD.
