Lost my cd key code for xp on my hp

Hello,
i put in my cd key code on my computer and now they are asking me for a serial number, i tried to put the same code in but it doesn't work, i got the copy from a relative who says the code should work, any suggestions on how i can get another one, my kids can't live without there games! i have xp home
