Hello,

I need to figure out how to set up a LAN..something idk.

I wanna be able to Just transfer my pictures and music off my Computer (xp..i think)
To my laptop that has Vista. so I can reformat the big computer.

My friend told me all I need is to set up a LAN, but idk how.. or if i need a connection, or a network.
Plus I'm really bad with like simple instructions.
I need step by step kinda stuff :/
Plus I don't have internet anymore so I can't figure it out while trying.
So I have to print it of another computer..
Which makes it harder for me ha.

Anywayssss. Help??

if all you want to do is transfer files from one computer to the next then all you need is a crossover cable.
this can pe purchased from your local pc store.

plug each end of the crossover cable into the network cards of the pcs in question.

make sure that the ip address and subnet mask are set correctly on each pc

ie. pc1 (vista) ip address 192.168.15.1
pc 2 (xp) ip address 192.168.15.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0

ensure any firewalls are disabled on either pc.

you should now be able to transfer your files fronm one to the other.

alternatively
you could go here
http://www.usbgear.com/USBG-VISTALink.html
and buy the usb transfer cable. a lot less hassle. and probable cheaper than setting up a full blown network.
