Outlook wont let me send with gmail

Hello,
i have outlook 2003 installed in my laptop with vista. i have just been trying to set it up, and it just wont work, aol either.
i have everything set to what it should, every direction and what not followed.
i am able to recive all emails, i just can't send them. in the accounts,
i changed the incoming server to pop.gmail.com instead if pop3.gmail.com. because, when i do the test with pop3, it wont find the incoming mail server.
when i put pop in without the 3, it did everything "completed", it just wont send the test mail, it says i should check the email address, witch is correct.
please help me, lol

have you enable pop in your gmail account?
