How to format sony NWD-B100 mp3 player?

Hello,
I own a sony NWD-B100 m3 player which i wants to format. When i connct it to winxp its showing files with in it . but when i try to format the msg "Other process are using file so u can't format"somthing like this appers. Even as soon i connect my PC gets slow... I tried to format from DOS i could'nt. So please help me out. plz plz
