Black screen on start up

Hello, I have a hp pavillion notebook I was using it recently when it froze, I restarted it and used disc cleanup.
After returning home from work I tried to start computer but all that comes up is black screen. I contacted hp and following their instruction tried removing battery then memory to no avail i even tried another hard drive with no success does anyone have any ideas to what is wrong.
