Watching college games through allacess, woul

Hello,i would like to watch college games on my tv
i hooked up my mac laptop with hd cable to tv
but the only thing that came on screen was the screen saver
what am i doing wrong or is there anything i should be doing that i am not

If the screen saver is displayed, this means that the connection is correct. What is displayed

when you remove the screen saver, please give details.
