Default gateway is your "router" or if you are connected directly to a cable/adsl modem it's your ISP's router... to not have one means your network adaptor is not comunicating to either.
check your physical connections
verify link light / activity
Device Manager for conflics and errors (specifically under Network Adaptors) re-install / update your network driver
Check your network activity in the Network and Sharing Center - verify network connection is on
Disable all firewall software
Verify IP address is appropriate and is set to recive an IP address automatically (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows?ui=en-US&rs=en-001&ad=US
Reset / Rebuild TCP/IP and Winsock library.
