The advantage of having a network printer is that you can share it out to other computers. If your printer can directly connect to a router or switch, you can use that printer without having to need a PC on to use it (besides obviously the PC you're printing from). There aren't really any disadvantages to having a network printer, unless you have people you don't know on your network printing hundreds of pages.
