DSL modem w/built in wireless router

this is probably a dumb question, but does anyone know if i can use my laptop to surf the internet without being connected to a dsl modem w/built in wireless router? i dont have a pc. for now i have my laptop and ps3 connected. i disconnected my laptop once to try to see if it works, but it doesnt. jus wondering if there was a way that i don't know about.

If you have a wireless router and you have correctly set it up and your laptop has a wireless card and it is correctly set up then YES you should be able to "surf the internet without being connected"
