I
have a near new Gigabyte P5Q3 mobo which has 6 SATA and 2 IDE HDs.

Firstly I have found that SATA 3 is physically blocked so will not accept any cables.

Next, when I boot, sometimes the IDE I have on the IDE cable to the mobo, shows in bios and many times it doesn't.

Why would this be? I have checked the cable and refitted etc but one day it will be there on boot then the next 3 it won't be, then next time it will be.

What is going on.

I have XP Pro SP3

Thanks

Hi there,

Change the ide cable from 40 to 80 pin and reset bios settings.

Thanks

Thanks however the cable is an 80 and it came with the new mobo.

At the moment the WD 500GB IDE is working well and showed in bios and post.

To be safe I copied the 450GB of data off it to another backup in case it goes down forever!!

I am still baffled why it is so random.

Thanks again
