My computer cannot read cd/dvds again

i have an inspiron 1501 laptop(xp) which recently stopped seeing cds/dvds when i installed klite codec pack i uninstalled it but 2 no avail i also tried restoring my system back back it wouldnt restore what do i do becos my computer does not read cds or dvds the icon doesnt show also what do i do

Hi there,

Turn off laptop,take a screwdriver and detach the cd drive,start without it,then make safe shut down and reseat back and use a cd lens cleaner and get it cleaned.
