Dvd player nothing works all new never used

I have new computer custom built with a dvd player i cant play any thing if you put cd /dvd nothing happens
the only thing you here is when you push the button to open the door you here motor on dvd to open door then put dvd then no movement

I suspect the data cable is not connected correctly. If this is a PATA (IDE) disk drive I would check to see that the slave/master jumpers are set correctly. I would also check to see if the BIOS is detecting the drive.
