Itunes could not connect to itunes store..

i have a ipod classic and rarely have any problems with it, my boyfriend got the itouch n downloaded itunes to my laptop and since he has done this mine & his itune will not work.. it says 'itunes could not connect to the itunes store..make sure your internet connection is active and try again'??? any ideas what went wrong.. in need of some help as go on holiday in 3weeks and want some new music

Hello,

i recently downloaded itunes 9.2 which is the most recent version of itunes, and now When i plug my ipod touch in it says this ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install itunes again. i tried re-installing it many times but it still wont work, but it still makes the sound when i plug it in and it still chargers and everything and when i go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager i cant find my ipod its only under imaging devices P.S. my computer is windows XP & my ipod is generation 2 but updated to version 3.1.3
