Why docs open differently lap v desk

Hello,

when in word 2003 i save docs on either lap/desk and open either desk/lap. things are missing, not changed or incorrect. mostly opening from usb flash drive. even when go back to original computer, items appear as saved. How do i fix? both desktop and lap are MS Office 2003. lap is vista home premium 2007
desk is vista home basic 2007

paragraphs, word editing, bullets, formatting.

funny thing is that when flash is replaced on computer that saved the creations and/or changes, they are there, but then when go to the other computer they are still missing (yet the flash does show correct time document was saved).
