Help with a new ipad

Hello, i just got an ipad in the mail...i pugged it in and all i get is a screen with a picture of a white apple usb plug with an arrow pointing to an itunes icon...and nothing else...what have i done wrong? what havent i done? nothing i do does anything...help

ok i got it...duh...plug the ipad into your itunes on your computer...
