Hello,
Is it possible to flash the bios on a dell inspiron 1501 when the pc does not boot. The lights and fan comes on and then nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

No you must be able to boot into Windows or DOS (from a diskette) to be able to flash the BIOS.

Thanks Xpcman. Is it a done deal? Will I have to buy a new motherboard? or is it repairable?

A new motherboard from Dell costs more than buying a new laptop. I found this link for a used 1501 for $166. You might also try eBay.
