Dvd rewriter

Hello, please can anyone help, I have a sony DVD RW-AW-G170A rewriter and it won't let me burn anything, i've tried all different disks, made sure the leads are in properly, tried different versions of nero and it keeps saying power calibration error. I've today noticed that the rewriter is the slave and cd is the master, would this make a difference. Can anyone help please. Can the master/slave cables be changed over quite easily or should I get a computer person to do it.

The Data cables shouldn't matter. Is this a new problem? Did this drive - computer combo ever work?

I would say that you have either a dead DVD drive or a under powered or failing power supply
