Hi,
1) SATA data cable is used for the SATA harddisk for the data transfer.
2) All the data flow in & out to your harddisk is done through this SATA cable.
3) This cable communicates with your motherboard.
4) Since SATA is different from PATA, this data cable should be connected to SATA
port on the motherboard.

The order of connection does not matter. You should make the connection with the power off.
