All my documents, pictures are gone, help!

Hello,

I do not know what we did, but all my saved files from My Documents, my Desktop, etc. are all gone on my profile. I think my husband may have done something. His are all there. My Magnetic screen savers are all gone, a years worth of work, etc. are all not there. Please help. Where can I look? The recycle bin is empty and no history. Is there a way to undo what ever was done? Pleas help, thank you! (Older Alienware PC, WindowsXP, IE. It appears he may have upgraded us to IE 8.)
