Network Map Problem

Hello,
Trying to set up a home network with a D-link router connected to a desktop running XP and a wireless connection to a laptop running Vista. The network map on the laptop shows the router, not the destop. Cannot share files or print although I can connect to the internet on both computers. Please help.
