Itunes store problems

Hello, i just got a new laptop and i wanted itunes on it so i downloadedd it an put it on i put my music on it but when i went to get onto the itunes store a thing pops up saying

"itunes could not connect to the itunes store. the network connection timed out. make sure your network setttings are correct and your network connection is actieve, then try again"

my internet is working compleatly, and i have been reasurching this but im not to savy with computers. i have tried the thing where i change my proxy setting under LAN but that hasnt worked. can you help please? im desprite at this point.
