I can't press the home button!!

Hi, my name is Dixie. One night, when I was listening to some music in my iPod Touch 8GB, I was about to turn it on. But when I press the home button, it won't show the screen. So I unlocked it with the power off button. So I changed my music. Then I wanted to do something else at the home screen. But when I pressed the home button, it doesn't show anything. So I have to power it off first and turn it back on. Please, can anyone help me? I really want my iPod Touch to be back normal! Thanks...
