System retore

Hello,
I am trying to restore my computer to factory settings, which i have done a handful of times. However, i talked to some dell people (i have a xps 140) and they had me do all sorts of things. Now when i try to restore my computer with the ctrl f11, i cannot do it bc i do not have the dell screen when the computer is first started. Is there any way to still restore my computer without this screen?

>Start
>All Programs
>Accessories
>System tools
>System Restore

how do you retrieve data that was before the restore point. I did a system restore and lost a lot of data, how can I retrieve it?
