Most often an old PC can be salvaged by doing some drive maintenance. I have been able to speed up a really old system by simply cleaning out the junk and defragmenting completely. I got one of the commercial programs that defragged thoroughly and also did the system files. Post that the improvement was really noticeable.

To speed up an old pc with built-in utilities or free software. For example, run your computer's built-in maintenance utilities, Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter.

Good Luck!
