I can't open my jumpdrive and i need help

Hello,
a friend of mine gave me some information and she put it on a jumpdrive, i put it in the USB port and when i try to acsess disk j the computer says its unavailable, i checked dozens of time if it was properly placed in the port and yet for 2 hours i have not been able to acseess the information on the disk. I have a hp desktop
