The proxy server is refusing connections

Hello,
I had a nasty virus that I think I got ride of a Trogen that I removed with spy bot search and destroy. super-anti-spy where and Microsoft security essentials. my computer seems to work fine but now Firefox says the proxy sever is refusing connections, also explorer says the same. I have Xp if that maters
