Stuck on background image and cursor/hourglas

Hello,

My computer loads windows xp. it asks for username and password. I put in password and loads background pic and no icons and cursor stays with hourglass. can't click the start button that shows up either. I did a system restore and same thing. It will load in safe mode. Help

When did this problem start? Did you download anything just before the problem occured? Do you download Torrents?

Your system may be infected with a virus.

Let me know and I will see what I can do.
