Hello,
I have two laptops on my home network, one OS Windows 7 Pro, the other older one, Windows XP. XP laptop will not accept/recognise WPA2 security only WEP, so I have to set out the router using WEP which is not satisfactory, How can I make the main laptop (Win 7) configures as wpa2 and the XP laptop as WEP so both can connect to broadband gateway via wireless router, withough upgrading adaptor (machine too old).

Sorry can't be done. You can only have one type of security on the router.
