Hello,
I was trying to upgrade a Dell Dimension 2400 2G ram from XP Home to Pro. It stopped installing giving a " Fatal Error Missing ??TFF file. A reboot causes the installation procedure to restart with the same result. asks for XP Pro disc that is missing an install file. F8 shows XP pro as the OS. which didn't install.XP home seems gone. Dont have the Win Home disc. No option to restore to earlier date. any ideas besides get a new computer. ( I have a very recent model) Thanks

Hi Fishman57,

From your post I understand that Windows XP Professional failed to install and now you do not have the Original Windows XP Home disc with you. The error message you have mentioned "Fatal Error Missing ??TFF file.", looks like Windows Installation is not able to find some important file during installation. My suggestion is to try with a different Windows XP Pro Disc (if available). Also, run Dell Diagnostics on the computer to check if there is any hardware failure. Please visit the following page for steps on running Dell Diagnostics:

Found a disc with Win XP Home Reinstall disc from another 2400 Dell computer. Had Home w/service pack 1a? on it. It formatted the drive from the disc menu. Then installed. There is no internet acess even with my ethernet plugged in. Can't figure out how to get it. Wants to intstall MSN .No IE or connection I think I need to upgrade to SP3. But probably need internet acess. I tried the connection wizard. Doesnt seem to work. I'm plugging in a network shared DSL connection. Do I have to go through alot to acees it. I'm in and out alot and work so thanks for your input. Should I try to upgrade to SP3. Can I go to Win 7 on this machine? If I get the connection working I'll be happy with XP Home SP3....That worked fine before the upgrade mess....

Hi Thomas,

After a fresh installation of Windows XP Operating System, you must install the drivers for the Network Card in your machine for internet to work. Please download the network drivers from the below mentioned link:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/dimension-2400

Dimension 2400 desktop computers deliver great performance with Windows XP Home and Windows XP Pro Operating Systems. If you want to upgrade to Windows 7, download and run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" to see if your PC is meets the minimum requirements for Windows 7. You can download "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" from the below mentioned link:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20

Please revert for clarification.

For internet.... network drivers...I entered the service tag. Will that give me the correct drivers. I see there is a choice of a few . Do I download them all to a flash drive and let the machine look for them on it? Is there one specific one for network adapter drivers?

Hi Thomas,

I can help you find the Device Driver for the Network Adapter in your Dell Dimension 2400, please send the Service Tag Number in a direct message to me. I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request. I am sending you a private message as well. Respond to the message and provide the system's Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action.
