HELP! I have a school year's worth of files and lessons on a flash drive that won't open. I have tried on more than two separate computers to open and I get the same message that it needs to be formatted. This is not a new flash drive. The computer doesn't show the name of the drive, but says that the volume does not contain a recognized file system. What do I do?
I don't want to lose the work.

After plugging in the device, go to device manager (In run type "devmgmt.msc") In Device manager go to "Universal serial bus controllers" It should list the storage devices that you have connected to your PC. Right click and then click "Uninstall. Remove the USB drive and restart your system.
Try connecting the device again. I think this should solve the problem.
