Uknown hard error

When i was workin on my system suddenly it gives an uknown hard error and after that when i restarted it fail so again reinstall xp but after farmattin it again appears ant setup stops what has happened.
error are
" unkown hard error"
sysem is going to restart to protect from further damage.
technical error,
" STOP: 0xC0000221
unknown hard error
C:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll

Is my hard disk damaged?

my experince ,if there is virous in our bootin operating system dvd /hdd we can get this type message , it is not deffect of hdd . use fresh os.. and also u can pulout ur hadrdisk and keep in another computer and formate it and keep again ur computer it can woks ,thanks
