Hello,
am using ubuntu 8.04.......
i wanted to instal vlc media player for it.......
but wen i typed sudo apt-get install vlc in terminal igot the error as
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
pls help me to instal vlc player.................

you can check this website: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ubuntu.html
@Balask: Seems like you have the Synaptic running. Close it. Then if you run the apt-get command (for installing anything), you won't get that error. The other process is the Synaptic.

I think you have to reconfigure your package try this command
sudo dpkg --configure -a
en restart installation after that
