Associations or something more serious?

I started windows and whatever menu I left click (except the "computer" which opens as if it were right click) the message is "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action". Even the Control panel.

Programs open, and I can enter folders from them... but I can't open folders, the recycle bin, etc. Even the right click menu doesn't hace the "new folder" option...

No virus.

Can you help?

I downloaded some file associations reg files but they don't work.-
I tried to restore but no restore points.
I tried to reinstall win 7 but it says my system is more updated than the one I'm trying to install and that I do not have enough room in the HD...
