Hello,

I am at a loss here and hope someone can fix this. On a Win7 desktop, I am able to map the drives from a server and view contents but cannot ping it. Because of this, I am not able to run the client software that requires it to be connected to the server.

I always thought that if you cannot ping a computer, you will not be able to map that computer's drives. What gives?

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

can other computers ping the server?

if not, try disabling the firewall on the server/client computer and trying again.

also, disable any antivirus solution and try again.

do your mapped drives point to hostname or IP address?

If I may, simplest first.

Windows 7 will not prompt for network location. Do you have a network location?

I used to see this alot when deploying dsl for BS&S!
