My desktop keyboard started typing gibberish about 5 days ago. (Letters were symbols in sequential order through to the end "+", then sequential numbers to "0".) A new keyboard produced the same results, so I uninstalled the keyboard. Things returned to normal for about 5 days, and now it is doing the same thing. This is bound to be a virus or similar, but none of my antivirus/antispyware is picking it up. 5 days should be long enough for programs to have the updates.
Anybody else having/had this experience? If so, how do I get rid of this pesky problem once and for all?

Can you test using the OSK (On Screen Keyboard)?

just type osk in the "search programs and files" box.

I used the Microsoft "fix-it" link, and it said it fixed 2 issues. I should know in another 4-5 days if it is fully resolved. Thank you xpcman!
