To Identify Repeated Values

Hello,
Please help with this issue.
I have a list of players in column 1 and column 2. I would like to know, for instance how many times "Allan"(player 1) comes face-to-face with "mike"(Player 2).
Like wise, I would like to match each member in player 1 to a specific player in player 2.
Date Player 1 Player 2
16-Feb Allan Mike
17-Feb john Sam
18-Feb victor Sam
19-Feb Allan Mike
20-Feb Ron Sam
21-Feb Allan jo

Hope, I explained my concern. Looking forward for a solution in Excel

Hello,

Might you not concatenate the entries in a blank column and do a count function on the range with the selection coming from the concatenated column to determine the number of times they've met?

Just a suggestion....
