Try this 1
Connect your external hard drive --> Click on "Start" --> In search bar,
type devmgmt.msc and press Enter. "Device Manager" will be opened.
Is there any yellow mark?

Let us know what it says? Is it "Unknown Device"? Also let us know your external hard drive brand name and model number,

It shows "Unknown Device". My external hard drive brand name is "Seagate"
Model : Expansion 500 gb

Try this 1
1) Right-click on the "Unknown Device" --> Select the option "Update Drivers" and follow the on-screen instructions. Check if it's able to detect the drivers.
2) If the problem still exists then click on the below hyperlink and follow the instructions.

First create a system restore point and then download the hotfix. which is for Windows 7 which has intel platform.
