My husbands laptop has crashed and he never made a recovery disk. What can I do? The computer lights come on, I can hear the fan motor running but there is just a black screen. It does not respond to F-12, F-8 or cntl/alt/del.

It appears to be a hardware problem. I suggest you have a local repair shop do a diagnostic to see if it's worth repairing.
