do i need to format first my WD My Passport WDBPGC5000ABL 500GB External hard drive before i can use it?

for what use you going to use this hard disk ?

ill be using it as a back up drive for my movie collections, pictures and such...

plug it into your pc and see it is recognized?
new one didnt have any data on it.. it is empty no need to format!
