I have an old Nokia 2330 which I use only to send text messages and to make the occasional call. It is pay-as-you-go with no contract. I will shortly be travelling to the United States for a holiday - Southern California and Hawaii. I wondered if I could purchase an international SIM card for my phone so that when I get to the States I would be able to send texts and make calls to the UK and also make calls within the US. Is this the best way to do this or, as has been suggested to me, should I buy a cheap phone when I get there and just use that for the duration of my stay? I literally know next to nothing about mobile phones so, if anyone can help me please answer in words of one syllable! Many thanks.

"please answer words of one syllable" ! What's this a vocabulary and grammar test?

I am not trying to be clever. I really am a total novice regarding mobile phones. This is a genuine question. All I want is a simple answer that I will be able to understand. Sorry if offended anyone, I certainly didn't mean to.

Three words spring to mind ... "Turn on roaming" --- oops - failed! Roaming is 2 syllables.

Not sure if the 2330 has roaming though

I really appreciate thank you messages as a payment for solving issues   :o)

Hi

To avoid roaming fees, you can purchase a USA sim card. You may wish to google iroam who offers such cards. Ensure you get all of the information from them before ordering to see if it will work on your Nokia.

The second option is, once in the USA, you may choose to purchase a cheap phone such as LG 231 for about 15 pounds with a prepaid option with a local US provider.

Good luck
