VLC sound converter not working

I have been using VLC for months converting my dvd's and a couple of days ago it started converting video without sound. I have tried everything and nothing works. Can someone please help me.

Try updating VLC to the latest version, if necessary reinstall the software.

No. I have reinstalled several times, changed all the audio settings, installed earlier versions....nothing is working.
